Semi-Private Training-What Is It?
We've recently made a big change in the Commence Fitness studio and introduced semi-private personal training!
You probably know what personal training is but you might not know what semi-private personal training is. That's why we're here to debunk some potential falsehoods and help you better understand semi-private training, 1:1 training and small group training (and how one of them might fit you best).
Let's clear up some potential thoughts:
Is Semi-Private Personal Training like group training?
Not at all.
Semi-Private training is not group training, at all. Within a small group training session, you have multiple people interacting with one another, engaging in the same exercise program, sharing equipment and effectively, doing the same thing. Depending on the location, this might be 2 people, it might be 10 people. These sessions are generally run more like classes--think circuits, engaging everyone in the room at the same time, etc.
Think of semi-private training like 1:1 personal training, in a shared cost environment. In our studio, that means you may be in a room of up to 4 people, however, everyone has their own space and equipment, their own custom program and they're doing their own workout while one trainer coaches each person individually. In semi-private training, there is no "rah rah let's GO!" but instead, individualized attention to each client. A trainer is closely watching your form, teaching you how to move properly and getting to know you on an individual level. While you can feel free to talk to people around you, you don't have to. Just like you, they're working on their own workout in their space. Everyone has different goals, needs and styles--we're here to accommodate that.
How does semi-private training differ from 1:1 personal training?
Semi-private training is effectively 1:1 training in a shared cost environment. That means you're receiving all of the things you may get in 1:1 training but your per session cost is lower as more people are sharing the trainer. In both 1:1 and semi-private training, you'll have your own space, custom programming, a trainer watching and fixing your form, accountability and some nutritional support.
So, why would someone do 1:1?
1:1 training is great for many people. In our studio in particular, 1:1 training lends itself to more privacy. It is solely you and your trainer. This type of training can also be great for someone with specific injuries or limitations who is nervous to workout or that may require a little extra attention. Lastly, a large differentiator between semi-private and 1:1 is the amount of nutritional support you'll receive. While all clients get some nutritional assistance, 1:1 clients have access to 1:1 nutrition coaching appointments as part of their package.
Who does semi-private training work for?
Everyone and anyone, truly. If you're looking for a workout routine that matches your goals, the accountability and support of a personal trainer and to get good results, it will work for you.
How about scheduling? Is it always the same time on the same day?
Nope! Unlike a class, you can schedule appointments whenever you want. You can certainly do the same times all of the time but you don't have to.
Your program is your program, no matter what time you show up. Whether it's always at 5:15 AM or you sprinkle a few different times throughout the week, you're never ahead or behind--you're always in the right spot for you.
How does the pricing differ between the different options?
As mentioned earlier, semi-private training is personal training in a shared cost environment. That means that in our studio, one session of semi-private training costs about half of what one session of 1:1 training costs. We do offer several different packages for both semi-private and 1:1 training so depending on your commitment, it could even look like a bigger difference than that.
While we don't do small group training, you'll often find small group training to be a little cheaper on average. This is because the classes are larger and not personalized to you, your goals and needs. This is the difference between going to a personal trainer and showing up to a random class.
When it comes to getting good results, staying consistent and actually reaching your goals, you'll want to follow a program that has progression, keeps track of your progress and challenges you in the correct way.
